BACLF, a foundation in northern California, has agreed to accept checks for the future Sylvia Bingham Foundation. Checks should be made out to "BACLF." On the memo line put "In Sylvia Bingham's Honor," NOT Sylvia Bingham Foundation, as there are some technical problems with transfer of money if the future foundation is named. If people prefer, they can also donate to Hard-Hatted Women where Sylvia had just begun working. http://www.hardhattedwomen.org/. She loved her new job. The checks should indicate "In Sylvia's memory" so HHW can keep track of donations.

Francoise and Steve are undecided about what form the Sylvia Bingham Foundation (SBF) should take. A free-standing 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation is a great deal of work which neither Francoise nor Steve have time for right now. An alternative, at least for now, is to have contributions go to a nonprofit “fiscal sponsor” (the Tides Center is an example) that would do all the administrative work. This would allow Francoise and Steve and other directors to focus on the programmatic work they (and others) care about. The fiscal sponsor would retain a small percentage of the donations to cover its administrative costs. Another alternative being considered is a “donor-advised fund” whereby an advisory group would recommend where to donate contributed funds. The SBF would engage in little if any independent work, instead supporting the work of other organizations doing the work SBF wants to see done rather than doing the work itself. In any event, all contributions made to BACLF as explained on this page will eventually be used to support the work of the SBF, whatever form the work takes. Thank you for your support.
